The string is organic, Non-GMO-verified cotton and the tag is FSC paper; the closure is either a cotton knot or a small aluminum staple (metal, at the top of the bag, not plastic in the steep path).
The company states plainly that its bags are non-heat-sealed and contain no plastic, and it is transitioning its outer wrappers to a BPI-certified compostable film.
