Lodge Seasoned Cast Iron Skillet

Recommended

Bare cast iron, one solid piece, seasoned only with soy-based vegetable oil - zero coatings, zero plastic, and cheap.

The verdict: Plastic-free

A single casting of iron with an integral cast-iron handle. The only "coating" is polymerized soy vegetable oil (seasoning) - no PTFE, PFAS, or plastic anywhere. Nothing in the food path but iron.

Verification: Manufacturer confirmed

Lead safety: Tested lead-free

Lead Safe Mama (Tamara Rubin) states plain, undecorated cast iron generally does not contain lead because iron's much higher melting point makes lead contamination during manufacturing unlikely, and specifically confirms: "there is no Lead in brand new undecorated (plain / uncoated) Lodge cast iron pots and pans that I have tested to date." This applies to bare seasoned skillets like this one - not Lodge's separate enameled cast iron line, which uses a colored glaze and is a different risk category. Vintage/antique cast iron of unknown origin can carry lead residue from past use even though it wasn't in the original casting.

Verification: Independently lab-tested
