Pura Kiki stainless steel baby bottle with silicone top

Recommended

Silicone is a primary contact surface here — your food is in direct contact with it, not just a seal.

The rare 100% plastic-free bottle system - 18/8 stainless body and steel collar, only the interchangeable top is medical-grade silicone.

The verdict: Silicone only

Everything hard is 18/8 stainless steel - the bottle body AND the screw collar - which is what sets Pura apart from glass bottles that hide a plastic ring. The only non-steel parts are medical-grade silicone: the interchangeable top (infant nipple, sippy spout, or straw), the protective sleeve, and the travel cover. No polypropylene anywhere in the drink path. As close to plastic-free as a leak-proof modern bottle gets; only the silicone keeps it from a full plastic-free rating.

Verification: Manufacturer confirmed

Lead safety: Lead found, not in contact path

Independent XRF testing of Pura Kiki insulated stainless steel baby bottles (purchased and tested repeatedly from 2016 through at least 2018, including units labeled "Made Safe Certified") found a sealing dot underneath the removable bottom cap that read as at or near pure lead - used to seal the vacuum-insulation layer. This is outside the drink path, but the bottom cap was reported to detach during ordinary use (drops, dents), exposing the lead dot to a baby's hands or mouth. Lead Safe Mama filed a formal CPSC violation report over the lack of a recall. It is not confirmed whether current-production Pura Kiki bottles still use this construction.

Verification: Independently lab-tested

A single modular stainless steel system that "grows" with the child: one 18/8 stainless bottle body accepts interchangeable medical-grade silicone tops, so the same bottle becomes an infant bottle, a sippy cup, a straw bottle, or a sport/water bottle just by swapping the top. Bottles come in 5oz, 7oz (insulated), 9oz, and 11oz sizes, insulated and non-insulated, each with a silicone sleeve and travel cover. MadeSafe certified.

Pros

  • One bottle covers infant through toddler by swapping silicone tops
  • Stainless is unbreakable and doesn't shed microplastics with hot formula
  • MadeSafe certified; brand's whole identity is plastic-free

Cons

  • Opaque steel - can't see how much milk is left
  • Silicone tops wear and need periodic replacement
  • Pricier than plastic bottles
