Pyrex Simply Store set of three stacked rectangular glass storage containers with turquoise lids

Pyrex Simply Store Glass Storage Set

Not recommended

The glass base is genuinely great - but the snap lid is plastic that contacts food and steam. The classic "I switched to glass, but the lid betrays you."

We don't recommend this one

The glass base is great, but the plastic snap lid contacts food and steam and degrades over time. For a glass base with a glass lid, see the food-storage pick, the Urban Green glass container; for fully plastic-free, the Weck jars.

The verdict: Minimal plastic contact

The container itself is the honest part: tempered glass, inert, non-leaching, a real upgrade over a plastic tub. But every Simply Store set ships with a plastic snap lid - BPA-free polypropylene - and that lid does contact food. When the container is filled to the top, inverted, tipped, or sealed over still-warm food, contents and condensing steam touch the underside of the plastic; and the lid degrades with repeated heat and dishwasher cycles. Rated minimal-contact because there's plastic in the food-contact path under normal use, not never. The fix is a glass or steel lid (see the picks); the glass base itself is not the problem. Note that modern US Pyrex is soda-lime glass, not the borosilicate the brand was historically known for.
