The short answer

If you'd rather dose loose powder, Nellie's is enzyme-based and better on stuck-on food, with the honest caveat that the tin's initial fill arrives in a plastic bag with a plastic scoop. All three are minimalist formulas, so in hard water expect spotting unless you add a rinse aid or citric acid.
Why plastic matters in dishwasher detergent
The convenient dishwasher pod is the same story as the laundry pod: that neat little pouch dissolves because it's made of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA/PVOH), a water-soluble plastic - and plenty of "eco" and "plastic-free" dishwasher pods are built on the exact same film. If a pod or tablet dissolves out of a wrapper, that wrapper is PVA - "biodegradable" and "water-soluble" don't make it not plastic.
