Plastic-Free Kettles

Boiling water is the harshest thing any plastic surface in a kitchen has to face, which is what makes kettles worth more attention than most appliances.

The two halves answer that very differently. An electric kettle has parts a stovetop kettle simply doesn't have - a heating disc mounted in the base, a water-level window, electronics under the water line - and that's where the plastic hides, often behind a polished steel exterior. Finding a genuinely plastic-free electric kettle means checking a specific list of parts. A bare all-metal stovetop kettle has none of those parts, so it's plastic-free by construction and there's almost nothing to check.

So: take the stovetop route if you want the question closed entirely, and the electric route if you want the convenience and are willing to buy carefully.
