The verdict: Significant plastic contact
The InFizz Fusion is the best-built and most versatile home carbonator - its FusionCap can carbonate almost any cold liquid (juice, wine, cocktails), which only the Drinkmate otherwise does. But from a plastic-free standpoint it is a classic "steel outside, plastic inside" story: the brushed-stainless machine and the bottle's stainless cap and base are steel, while the bottle body your drink is carbonated and stored in is BPA-free plastic. So the drink-contact vessel is plastic, same as a SodaStream, and the nozzle is plastic too. Significant-plastic: the steel accents are not in the water path, and the rating follows the path, not the styling. (We previously rated this minimal-contact "as the category's plastic baseline" - but a drink that is carbonated in plastic and then stored in plastic is the bottom tier, however good the machine is.) (Breville's water-only InFizz Aqua is the same story with the same plastic bottle.)

Breville's premium sparkling-beverage maker and, by build quality, arguably the nicest machine in the category. The FusionCap lets you carbonate not just water but juice, wine, and cocktails, and control the CO2 release speed; the Twist & Lock system seats the bottle. It uses standard 60L screw-in CO2 cylinders and ships with a 1L bottle. If carbonating non-water drinks is the whole point for you, it's excellent at that - only the Drinkmate otherwise does it.
