The Humble Co. Humble Brush Bamboo Toothbrush

The Humble Co. Humble Brush Bamboo Toothbrush

Not recommended

A pharmacy-shelf bamboo brush marketed as biodegradable, whose "65% plant-based" bristles are still 100% nylon in your mouth.

We don't recommend this one

Widely sold and marketed as biodegradable, but the bristles are nylon. For a bamboo brush with genuine natural bristles, see the Gaia Guy or Primals boar brushes or the Myster Wise Guy agave brush.

The verdict: Mostly plastic

The handle composts; the bristles don't. Humble's bamboo toothbrush is marketed as biodegradable and compostable, but the bristles - the contact surface - are BPA-free nylon described as roughly 65% castor/plant-based. A "65% plant-based" nylon is still 100% nylon: it does not compost and it sheds microplastic. The bamboo handle is real and biodegradable, which is exactly what makes the "biodegradable" framing misleading - it quietly describes the handle, not the bristles that matter.

Bamboo No

A standard adult bamboo toothbrush sold widely in pharmacies and supermarkets. It brushes normally and the handle is genuine bamboo; it is documented rather than recommended because of the nylon bristles. Worth noting as neutral context: the same brand's bamboo cotton swabs are a genuine plastic-free pick (a bamboo stick with a cotton tip) - so this is a brand that lands on both sides of our line depending on the product, and it's the bristles that put this one on the wrong side.

Pros

  • Handle genuinely is bamboo, not plastic
  • Cheap and very widely available

Cons

  • Bristles are nylon despite "plant-based / biodegradable" marketing
  • Not compostable as sold; the bristles must be removed first
  • The "biodegradable" framing describes the handle, not the contact surface
