Re-Play Divided Plate

Re-Play Divided Plate

Not recommended

A recycled-polypropylene kids' plate - genuinely NOT melamine - but still solid plastic in direct food contact, microwaved and scraped by utensils, so "recycled / BPA-free" is not the same as plastic-free.

We don't recommend this one

For hot food off a non-plastic surface, choose the stainless Avanchy suction plate or the one-piece silicone ezpz Mini Mat instead.

The verdict: Mostly plastic

The Re-Play Divided Plate is molded entirely from recycled polypropylene, much of it from recycled milk jugs, made and tested in the USA. It's worth saying clearly: this is NOT melamine dishware - polypropylene is a distinct and generally lower-concern plastic, and Re-Play is explicit that it's BPA-, PVC-, phthalate-, and melamine-free. But it is still solid plastic in direct food contact: kids scrape it with utensils and it's microwaved, so hot food sits on a plastic surface that degrades with wear. The recycled content is a real environmental plus and the material is a reasonable choice among plastics, but "recycled / BPA-free" is not plastic-free.

Re-Play's divided plate is the brightly colored, near-indestructible kids' plate, sold cheaply and often in multipacks. Three raised compartments keep first foods separated. It's dishwasher-safe and microwavable in short bursts, and it's light enough for a toddler to carry.

Pros

  • Recycled polypropylene, made and tested in the USA - a strong environmental story
  • NOT melamine; BPA-, PVC-, phthalate-, and melamine-free
  • Virtually indestructible and inexpensive

Cons

  • The plastic surface is scraped by utensils and degrades over time with hot food
