But clever or not, it is petroleum plastic, and its cleaning action comes from that foam abrading against your dishes, which is exactly how foam sponges shed microplastic fragments in use. Kitchen foam sponges have been shown to release microplastics as they wear; a product-specific shed rate hasn't been published for this SKU, but the mechanism is the same. There is no natural material anywhere in it.
