Stanley Classic Legendary Camp Mug

Stanley Classic Legendary Camp Mug

Not recommended

Rugged 18/8 steel camp mug, but the press-fit drink-through lid is Tritan plastic - so as sold you sip over plastic.

We don't recommend this one

Steel body, but the press-fit drink-through lid is Tritan plastic, so you sip over plastic.

The verdict: Minimal plastic contact

The mug is double-walled 18/8 stainless steel with a steel rim, so drinking with the lid off puts your lips and the coffee on steel. But it ships with a press-fit drink-through lid made of Tritan (Eastman's BPA-free copolyester), and when that lid is on, hot coffee flows out over the plastic. Steel where it stores, plastic where you sip through the lid - so minimal-contact, and only truly steel-path if you drink with the lid removed.

Verification: Manufacturer confirmed

Lead safety: Lead found, not in contact path

This exact mug has not itself been independently tested, but it shares the same double-wall vacuum-insulated stainless construction as other Stanley insulated drinkware, and Stanley has publicly confirmed that a lead-based solder pellet is used to seal the vacuum layer under the bottom cap across its insulated stainless steel product line. Independent XRF testing of a same-brand Stanley tumbler found the sealing dot leaded while the food-contact steel and drink-path components tested non-detect. The sealing dot sits under the base, outside the drink path, but is exposed if the bottom cap/button detaches.

A vacuum-insulated stainless camp mug in Stanley's long-running Classic line, sold with a secure press-fit lid that lets you drink through it while keeping splashes down. Comes in 8 oz and 12 oz. It's an inexpensive, durable everyday mug; you can also pop the lid off and drink from the open steel rim.

  • Drinking lid-off puts your lips on steel, not plastic
  • Inexpensive and durable
