DF Grinders
This is the rare brand where you can watch plastic leave the coffee path one part at a time. On the original DF64, both the exit chute and the dosing cup were plastic, and the stock declumper was two stiff clear plastic sheets. Gen 2 replaced the cup with food-grade aluminium but kept the plastic chute. The DF64V Gen 3 finally replaced the chute itself with anodised aluminium and the declumper with stainless. Three generations, three fewer plastic parts.
The catch is that the brand's own documentation never kept up. The materials FAQ still says "The grind chute and cup are food-safe plastic" with no model attached - a sentence that is now wrong in one half for Gen 2 (the cup has been aluminium since 2023) and wrong in both halves for the DF64V. Anyone reading the FAQ to decide what they are buying gets a stale answer, and the correct one is only in the individual manuals.
So the generation matters more than the brand here. Do not carry a materials finding from one DF64 to another.
How clear are their specs?
Wildly uneven between models. The DF64V Gen 3 manual is genuinely excellent - a numbered diagram naming the material of all fifteen parts, including the outlet chute and the declumper, which is more than almost any grinder maker publishes. The Gen 2 manual, by contrast, gives a specification table whose only material line is "Grinder Body Material: Aluminum" and never names the chute at all, and the site-wide FAQ that would fill the gap is out of date. Parts are sold individually, and the catalog is a useful tell: listings name the material in the title when a part is metal ("58MM Metal Dosing Collar", "Stainless Steel Button Replacement") and name no material at all for the chute, chute cover and declumper. No BPA, FDA, EC 1935/2004 or LFGB statement appears anywhere.
