Fellow Carter Move Mug

Recommended

Ceramic-lined steel mug with a ceramic drinking lip - the cup you sip from is ceramic and steel, but the 360 sip lid is BPA-free plastic.

The verdict: Minimal plastic contact

The body is 18/8 stainless steel lined with a "True Taste" ceramic coating, and the open drinking lip is that ceramic surface - so when you drink with the lid open, your mouth and the coffee meet ceramic-coated steel, not plastic. That is unusually good for a travel mug. The catch is the 360 Sip Lid: it is BPA-free plastic, and when it is on, the coffee flows out over the plastic lid opening. So the mug body/lip is a genuine ceramic-and-steel drink surface, but the on-the-go sip path still runs over plastic - hence minimal-contact rather than better.

Verification: Manufacturer confirmed

Lead safety: Lead found, not in contact path

Fellow's own support page states that Carter Mugs use lead solder in the vacuum-insulation seal (the standard sealing-dot method used across double-wall insulated steel drinkware), and that the lead is "not exposed to the user" - i.e., it's under the base/in the sealed vacuum layer, not in the ceramic-lined food-contact interior. This is a manufacturer disclosure, not independent lab testing, and no third-party XRF result for the Carter Move specifically was found.

A commuter mug built around a ceramic-lined steel interior and a tapered, "drinkable" ceramic lip inspired by wine glasses, aimed at keeping coffee tasting clean (no metallic note). It ships with a 360 Sip Lid you can drink from at any angle, and an optional magnetic splash guard. You can drink with the lid off for an open ceramic lip, or through the closed 360 lid on the go.

Pros

  • Ceramic-lined interior and ceramic drinking lip - drink surface is ceramic, not plastic or bare steel
  • Excellent insulation (12 hr hot / 24 hr cold)
  • Well-regarded, comfortable tapered lip

Cons

  • Ceramic coatings can chip or wear with heavy use
  • No fully steel or fully ceramic lid option - the only lids are plastic
