Natursutten Natural Rubber Pacifier

Recommended

A single piece of natural rubber - nipple, shield, and button all one molded part, with zero plastic and zero silicone. The benchmark plastic-free pacifier.

The verdict: Plastic-free

The entire pacifier is molded from one piece of 100% natural rubber (Hevea brasiliensis sap) - nipple, butterfly shield, and button are all the same continuous rubber, with no plastic ring, no plastic shield, and no silicone anywhere. Because it is one piece there are no joints or cracks for bacteria. This is the fully plastic-free AND silicone-free option; the only caveat is that it is latex, so it is unsuitable for a child with a latex allergy.

The pacifier that defines the plastic-free category. Designed by a Danish mother and made in Italy by a family rubber-goods maker; production is slow (weeks of curing and many hand steps per pacifier). Sold in Original (rounded) and Orthodontic nipple shapes and several age bands (0-6, 6-12, 12-18+ months). Free of BPA, phthalates, PVC, and parabens; the brand states the allergy-causing latex proteins are largely removed in production, though it remains unsuitable for a diagnosed latex allergy.

Pros

  • Seamless one piece - no joints to trap bacteria, nothing to unscrew
  • Soft natural rubber, softer than silicone; biodegradable material
  • Made in Italy, long-established rubber-goods maker

Cons

  • Natural rubber (latex) - not for a child with a latex allergy
  • Rubber ages, softens, and must be replaced more often than silicone (roughly every 4-6 weeks)
  • One-piece rubber can trap water inside if not shaken/dried; boil to sterilize, do not microwave
  • Slight rubber taste/smell when new
