A plastic housing plus a plastic-and-media cartridge - a mitigation device, not a plastic-free product. It mounts on the drain hose and filters the whole load, so it's in the most effective class (external inline filters), and its distinguishing feature is the closed loop: you mail spent cartridges back and they recover the fiber and refurbish the cartridge, which answers the "captured fiber has to go somewhere" problem better than most. Note the capture figure: PlanetCare advertises very high numbers, but independent mixed-load testing has come in lower, so treat the headline as a manufacturer claim - the external-filter class as a whole tests around 78-90%+.
