The short answer
Manual grinders get much closer to plastic-free than electric ones, but almost all of them hide a polymer part in the bean path. The Kinu M47 is the one to buy if you want an all-metal path by design - stainless funnel, stainless catch cup - though Kinu doesn't disclose the burr carrier or bushings, and sells ABS catch cups too, so check what you're ordering. The Hario Dome mill is the only genuinely plastic-free option, a wood-box mill with a steel hopper and ceramic burrs, but it's import-only and slow at about 35g. On a budget, the Timemore C3 is good with a plastic hopper lid; the Porlex Mini's whole body is plastic.

- A grinder with no hopper lid can't have a plastic one - open-funnel designs sidestep the most common compromise

- A metal or glass catch cup beats a plastic one for static too: grounds cling less and scatter less
