- A grinder with no hopper lid can't have a plastic one - open-funnel designs sidestep the most common compromise
- Check which catch cup you're buying - some brands sell metal and plastic versions of the same cup for the same grinder
- A metal or glass catch cup beats a plastic one for static too: grounds cling less and scatter less
