A heavy German hand grinder with a stainless funnel and a stainless catch cup - a rare manual where beans and grounds are designed to meet only metal.
The verdict: Plastic-free
Kinu describes the M47 Classic as having an "all-metal body and internal parts, including a stainless-steel funnel," and pairs it with a "stainless-steel 11-magnet catch cup." That is both ends of the coffee path in steel, which is what separates it from the popular alternatives: the Comandante runs beans through a plastic internal frame, the 1Zpresso J-Max caps its hopper with a polycarbonate lid, and the Porlex grinds inside a POM housing. There is no hopper lid here at all - the funnel is open.
The plastic on this grinder is deliberate and external: a solid ABS thumb stopper on the outside of the body, there to give your hand something to brace against. It never meets beans or grounds.
Two honest limits. Kinu does not disclose the burr carrier, the axle bushings, or the burr alloy anywhere - the official exploded diagram numbers nine parts and assigns a material to none of them - so "all-metal internal parts" is a manufacturer claim covering components no teardown has independently confirmed. And the catch cup is a real fork in the road: Kinu also sells a two-piece set of food-safe ABS catch cups, which would put grounds into plastic on an otherwise steel machine. This rating is for the stainless cup the Classic is sold with.

A dense, deliberately over-built manual grinder aimed at espresso. Adjustment is a stepless dial on the top plate rather than a nut under the burrs, so you can change grind without disassembling anything, and four ball bearings keep the axle from wobbling under load. Beans drop into an open steel funnel; the catch cup clamps on magnetically underneath and pulls off to dose. It is heavy for a hand grinder and priced accordingly.
