The verdict: Silicone only
Nearly every electric grinder drops beans through a plastic hopper and grounds into a static-prone plastic bin. Varia designed against that: the VS3 page states that all internal parts are metal with an anti-static surface treatment, and that "from hopper to dosing cup, coffee only contacts metal." The outer burr is machined from a single piece of stainless steel, and the magnetic catch cup is CNC-machined alloy. The one thing in the path that isn't metal is the silicone bellows that caps the hopper and puffs air through the burr chamber; the cup's silicone base and the non-slip feet sit outside the food path entirely.
Two honesty notes. This is a coffee-contact claim, not a whole-product one - Varia's own VS4 lists "Food-Safe Plastic" in its materials line, so the brand does use plastic where it decides coffee won't reach. And no independent teardown has ever confirmed the grounds chute material, which is the single highest-contact part. The first-generation VS3 did contain plastic motor components; the current generation moved the gearbox to stainless steel, so the claim reflects a real revision rather than only copy.
