A palm-sized machined-aluminum electric grinder where the only non-metal part in the bean path is a small finger guard that lifts straight out.
The verdict: Minimal plastic contact
Option-O builds the mini from 6061-T6 CNC-machined and anodised aluminium, and on this model the "all metal" heading holds up unusually well. The aluminum bean funnel doubles as the grind-adjustment collar, the 48mm conical burrs are steel, and the magnetised transfer cup is machined aluminum. Unlike almost everything else in the category there is no plastic hopper, no plastic chute liner, and no plastic catch.
The one part keeping it off a clean rating is the finger guard that sits inside the hopper, which beans pass through on their way to the burrs. On the first-generation mini this was a 3D-printed plastic piece; the mini 2 ships an equivalent anti-popcorn part and Option-O has never stated its material. It lifts straight out in seconds, and many owners remove it because it makes pouring beans awkward - but Option-O's own manual tells you to operate the grinder with it attached, so we rate the machine as the maker intends it to be used and treat removal as the upgrade.
The honest gap: Option-O has never published a grind-path materials breakdown. Its manuals scope the aluminium claim to the motor housing and portafilter fork, with "304 food grade stainless steel for critical parts" - and never says which parts are critical. One reviewer who handled the original noted everything was metal "save for some elements in the burr housing," and no source has ever enumerated what those were.

About the size of a large travel mug and powered over USB-C, this is the smallest serious electric grinder on the market. You single-dose it: beans into the funnel, lid on, grind into the magnetised cup. The redesigned burr housing sweeps wider than the original and the motor pulses on spin-down to push the last particles out. The anti-popcorn finger guard is the only part of the bean path that isn't confirmed metal. It lifts out without tools, and taking it out leaves beans and grounds touching nothing but aluminium and steel.
- Unscrew and lift off the bean funnel
- Lift the finger guard straight out of the hopper - it is a friction fit, no tools needed
- Keep it somewhere safe in case you want to put it back
- Option-O's manual says to always operate with the finger guard attached, so this is against the maker's instructions
- The guard is a safety part between your fingers and the burrs - do not remove it if children use the grinder
- Option-O never states the gen-2 guard's material; the gen-1 equivalent was a 3D-printed plastic piece
